Specialized Coaching
Drawing on my experience as a fortepianist and harpsichordist, particularly as an accompanist in the early music department of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels since 2021, where I move between many different classes, including the singing class; but also as a professor of the introductory course on "historically informed performance practices" that I am currently creating for modern piano students at the Royal Conservatory of Liège; I propose:
- Tailor-made accompaniment sessions for singers/instrumentalists to prepare their repertoire with harpsichord (at 415 or 440hz pitch) or pianoforte (at 430hz).
- Introductory sessions on historical keyboards for modern pianists wishing to broaden their stylistic range.
Some of the topics we could discuss together include:
- Practical explanations of the differences between the mechanisms of historical instruments (such as the Viennese or harpsichord action) and those of the modern piano
- Exploration and practical application of historical temperament issues (instrument tuning)
- Introduction to questions of ornamentation and historical improvisation
- Introduction to Partimento or Basso Continuo
- Reading of sources: Leopold Mozart, CPE Bach…
- Open discussions, without dogmatism, about your repertoire.
Instruments available: Walter type 5 octave pianoforte; French harpsichord with 1 manual (Blanchet copy).
